Increase in tribunal compensation limits

Tribunal compensation limits will increase from 1 February 2013 under The Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order 2012 to reflect an RPI increase of 2.6% from September 2011 to September 2012. The increased maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal will only apply in circumstances where the employees effective date of termination falls on or after 1 February 2013. The increased compensation limits are set out below:

Maximum limit on a week’s pay £430 £450
Minimum basic award for certain unfair dismissals   (dismissals for reasons of trade union membership or activities, health and   safety duties, pension scheme trustee duties or acting as an employee   representative) £5,300 £5,500
